Were you planning a trip, a bike ride or an entire weekend outdoors, only for the forecast to turn to rain? Before you cancel your booking, give it another chance. A rainy weekend does not have to be a wasted weekend.
All you need is a few indoor activities up your sleeve, or somewhere to stay where you can adapt your plans to the weather. You might head out for a walk one day and spend the next in the spa, over a good meal or at the bowling alley.
Sometimes you may even find that the rain gives you a chance to slow down at last.
1. Make wellness the main event of the day

When it is raining outside, there is no need to feel guilty about “not doing anything”. A spa visit is a plan in itself. Go for a swim, enjoy a sauna, soak in a whirlpool or book a massage, and take your time. It is a good opportunity to switch off your phone and forget about the forecast for a few hours.
At Amenity Orlické hory, you will find a swimming pool, a whirlpool, a steam room, a Finnish sauna and a herbal sauna. Amenity Špindlerův Mlýn also has wellness facilities.
And if the weather improves in the afternoon? Great. You can head out later.
2. Take a short trip between showers

It rarely rains all day. Check the weather radar, wait for a break in the clouds and head out for a shorter walk.
You do not have to cover twenty kilometres. Sometimes an hour in the woods, a view or a coffee in a nearby town is enough. This is where staying somewhere with nature right on the doorstep comes into its own.
At the Amenity White House at Statek Náhlov, forests and meadows begin just outside the door. You can go for a walk, ride your bike or pick mushrooms, then simply head back if the weather takes a turn.
Náhlov is the kind of place where you do not need to plan every minute of your day.
3. Challenge each other to a game of bowling

When it is wet outside, take the competition indoors. Split into teams, come up with names and organise a family tournament. The losing team gets to choose the restaurant or pays for dessert, just to make things a little more interesting.
Bowling is available at Amenity Špindlerův Mlýn, Amenity Orlické hory and Amenity Lipno. At Lipno, the Amenity Sport Arena has four bowling lanes.
So if you are travelling with children or a group of friends, the weather need not put an end to a little friendly competition.
4. Explore Pálava at a slower pace

Pálava is known for sunshine, cycling and wine. But a rainy day can be a good reason to ease off a little.
Instead of an all-day bike ride, plan a visit to Mikulov, a long lunch, a wine tasting or simply a slower day looking out over the landscape.
Mikulov and the Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape are within easy reach of Amenity Guesthouse Horní Věstonice and Amenity Apartments Perná. When the weather allows, you can head out by bike on the trail of Venus or visit the spiral-shaped lookout tower in Kobylí.
And let us be honest: Pálava is one of those places where a rainy afternoon with a glass of wine can be a rather pleasant plan.
5. Let the children burn off some energy

Rain can put parents’ creativity to the test. Choose a resort with plenty for children to do, though, and you will not have to come up with every activity yourself.
At Amenity Špindlerův Mlýn, you will find a children’s playroom, a playground, a trampoline, a swimming pool, bowling and a mini zoo. At Lipno, alongside the children’s playroom and saltwater pool, there are plenty of sporting options in the Amenity Sport Arena.
The children have something to do, and parents get a moment to catch their breath.
6. Turn the rain into an excuse for good food
If you cannot spend the whole day out exploring, why not spend some of it over a good meal? Enjoy a late breakfast, a long lunch, coffee and something sweet. In the evening, linger over dinner with a bottle of something good and make an occasion of it.
In Pálava, you can combine your stay with a taste of the local wine culture. In the Orlické Mountains or at Lipno, you do not have to go far to find a restaurant: the resorts have their own dining facilities.
Sometimes you simply do not need to fill every hour of the day.
7. Slow down at Náhlov

Now for a completely different kind of day. No bowling. No attractions. No “we still have to fit this in”.
The Amenity White House at Statek Náhlov sits at the end of the road, in a secluded spot by the woods. It is a place for anyone who wants to escape the bustle for a while. Forests and meadows begin right outside the door. In the evening, you can sit on the terrace, have a barbecue and simply spend time together.
Nobody, really nobody, will disturb you there.
And when it rains? That might be when you enjoy the peace most of all.
8. Make Czech Canada your base

Czech Canada is another place where you do not have to feel that you must keep heading somewhere else.
When the weather is good, go cycling or spend time outdoors. When it is not, take a quieter approach and enjoy the resort’s facilities. Amenity Czech Canada offers a 25-metre swimming pool, wellness facilities, an outdoor swimming pond, sauna rituals, seasonal golf and e-bike rental.
It is a useful reminder that a weekend need not be a race to visit as many places as possible.
9. Choose somewhere to stay where rain is no disaster
That brings us to the most useful tip of all. You cannot control the weather. You can control how much it affects your plans.
When choosing a weekend stay, look at what the resort itself offers as well as what there is to do nearby.
At some places, you will appreciate a spa and swimming pool. At others, bowling or an indoor sports hall. In Pálava, it is the proximity to Mikulov and local wine experiences. At Náhlov, it is the peace, privacy and nature right outside the door. In Czech Canada, it is the mix of nature, wellness and other activities.
Rain does not have to spoil your weekend
Perhaps you wanted to spend the whole day walking in the mountains. Perhaps you had planned a bike ride around Lipno. Or perhaps you were looking forward to Pálava and its views.
If it starts raining, you do not have to cancel the weekend.
Just change the pace. Enjoy the spa, a long lunch, bowling or a swim. Get outdoors between showers. Or choose a place where the rain is a good reason to stay in all day and take your time.
A good weekend does not need perfect weather. You just need to choose the right place.
